Mycellium Forest
Project type
Weaving
Date
July 2025
Location
Albuquerque, NM
This little weaving started out as an experiment using handspun Churro wool. I wove it on a frame loom after badly spinning it. A friend saw it and said, "Oh, that looks like Mycellium and we are having an exhibit." So, I took it to be looked at and they accepted it! It depicts the root system beneath the soil that moves life from one place to another. So I exhibited it in the October 2025--Gallery: Roots 2.0 – Mycelium, Mushrooms, & Friends Open Space Visitor Center Albuquerque, NM
Here is the Artist Statement about it:
Title: Hidden Energy
Description:
The mat of Mycelium flourishes with hidden energy and some that is visible to the eye. This network resembles the connections that mycelium has with the earth, as we, as humans, have with each other.
Handspun Churro Sheep wool, handwoven with wool/alpaca and cotton thread.
